A white -collar worker («работник в белом воротничке») — это служащий. A white-collar job — работа в учреждении, канцелярская работа. Имеется в виду традиционная одежда служащего в офисе — костюм, белая рубашка, галстук, туфли. Раньше служащих называли black-coat workers из-за чёрного пиджака и чёрных брюк в тонкую полоску. A blue-collar worker (рабочий) носит синюю рубашку или майку, джинсы, кроссовки.
